St Mary’s University, Department of Informatics attended the fourth annual Cyber Security Month hosted by the Information Network Security Administration (INSA) on November 4, 2023. The event, which had the theme of “Cyber Security and the Role of Young Students”, featured a panel discussion and an exhibition, where students from various academic institutions learned about the latest achievements and challenges of cyber security in Ethiopia. 

The panel discussion was led by young professionals who work at INSA’s talent center, and they shared their experience and expertise on cyber security with the audience. They also answered questions and advised students who were interested in pursuing a career in this field. 

Mrs. Tigist Hamid, Director General of INSA, and Mr. Hanibal Lemma, Cyber Security Directorate Director of INSA were also present at the event, and they gave inspirational speeches on the importance of cyber security for the national interest and development. They also praised the students for their curiosity and role in enhancing Ethiopia’s cyber security . During the event the Director General promised to support St. Mary’s computer science students in their career development and facilitate their internship access at INSA.

The event was a great opportunity for the students to learn from the experts, network with their peers, and showcase their talents. It also highlighted young students’ role in enhancing Ethiopia’s cyber security, which faces increasing cyber-attack attempts.
